Society has accepted balding in men as being a condition of aging. In fact some people see it as debonair and even masculine. Women who go through a period of losing their hair feel much different about this problem. Because women do much more with their hair it actually becomes a part of their personality and who they are. This is why when their hair begins to thin, they will do anything to find a hair loss treatment that works to bring back their beautiful curls.
Experiencing the loss of your hair can be devastating. We all view hair as what makes us who we are and in many instances this is true. Those who see the beginning of the loss of hair also begin to develop low self-esteem. It is usually viewed as a direct reflection of what we are and when it begins to fall out, we lose a part of ourselves.
Some of the ways of combating the loss of hair includes laser treatments, anti-inflammatories and DHT inhibitors to name just a few. Each type of treatment offers a different approach to the problem. Some can encourage the hair to begin growing again while others stop the body from attacking the hair follicles which causes it to fall out.
DHT or dihydrotestosterone is a natural hormone that is naturally produced in the body. DHT inhibitors are products that help alleviate high levels of DHT. As the hormone increases in numbers, it causes the hair to stop growing. Inhibitors help decrease the levels by blocking the production of it. The hair begins to grow again. This is used when thinning begins to be notice. Anti-androgens work in the same manner only at a later stage.
Sometimes the scalp lacks stimulators that can aid in the growth of hair. Growth stimulators help increase the stimulation to the scalp which produces new hair growth. This is usually sold in a topical solution that is used on the scalp in the area that thinning is occurring. These do not slow the loss of hair so you may still notice your hair thinning. It will however stimulate the growth of new hair in thin areas.
If your scalp is itchy, flaky and red it could be inflamed. As the follicle becomes dry it begins to itch and becomes inflamed from scratching it. This can cause the follicle to become weak allowing it to loosen and fall out. Anti-inflammatories are used to help heal the inflammation thereby allowing the follicle to remain tight within the scalp.
When large amounts of DHT are found in the body, they tend to attack the hair like it is bacteria that the body is attempting to get rid of. Super oxide dismutase or SOD defends the hair and its follicle from being attacked by these hormones. It actually helps decrease the super oxide so the hair can remain intact in the scalp.
If you notice that your hair is beginning to thin, you should talk to your dermatologist to get information on hair loss treatments. Your scalp could just simply have low blood circulation which is causing it to slow the growth. Only your dermatologist will know for sure.
